Helping a handful of really promising seed stage companies with their pitches. Lesson learned: Start the pitch with the team bios.
The audience needs to know if you’re straight out of university or if you have job experience, if you’re a single founder or a team (preferably the latter), and if you have had any kind of exposure to the world of your prospective customers. Also if you have had any exposure to the world of business, startups, entrepreneurs.
The fundamental questions your audience are trying to answer:
1. Why are you the only people in the world who can solve the problem you’re about to describe.
2. Why will you spend the next X years of your life (where X is larger than you think – you may not know that but the audience likely does) banging your head against the wall and never give up and just keep plugging along until the wall moves.
If they get some kind of context for these two questions they’ll be interested in what comes next.
